Supporting the ETO Project at IMCO, Oman

Updated: Aug 12, 2023

We have been happy to support the ETO project at the training unit at the International Maritime College of Oman. This has been two great years, where we have seen the students grow, into ETOs who are ready to take on any task at sea.

The ETO Project

BluePoint Scholastic was signed on to the ETO project from the very beginning. Even though we were not a part of the planning phase, we still had a great impact on the project, as we were signed on as Teams Leaders for the project. Over the years, we have developed material for the project, and we have added a supporting writing course for the students. This course came about when it was evident that the students were lacking writing skills, and they could not communicate clearly as stated in STCW. In addition to this, we developed a new leadership course, where we implemented games and tasks for the students to develop their leadership skills.

Taking into account that the project was set out to be a fully online course, but later turned into a blended learning course, we actually got to interact with the students, and we were able to create a relationship with the students.

What was the outcome of the project?

Even though many of the students seemed to struggle, we actually supported them to elevate their learning. Our focus on any project is always on the students. As an educational institution, your prime customer is your students. If you don't have happy students, your outcome will probably not be as you had planned. We are happy that we could have the interaction with the students, and we wish them all the best in their ETO future!
